GeForce NOW adds DLSS 4.5 controls as cloud gaming gets more adjustable
Nvidia is exposing more image-quality choices in supported games, with options that depend on the membership and cloud rig.
Nvidia’s October 15 GeForce NOW update adds DLSS 4.5 controls for supported games, giving subscribers more say in how a cloud session looks. The company lists Windows, macOS, Chrome OS and Steam OS apps, with the available options depending on membership and hardware. Nvidia’s weekly update.
Ultimate members on RTX 5080-powered cloud rigs receive the widest selection, including Dynamic Multi Frame Generation up to 4X. Nvidia also says Enshrouded 1.0 and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 are streaming at launch. Its announcement warns that onboarding dates can differ from store release dates.
More settings create a better question
Our view is that configurable streaming is useful when it lets a player identify the compromise they prefer. The most attractive still frame and the most comfortable moving image are not necessarily the same target.
A sensible evaluation would compare the same scene with one setting changed at a time. Fast camera movement, fine details and difficult lighting can each reveal a different weakness. That is how we would test the controls; we have not performed those measurements for this article.
We would also keep image quality separate from the feel of control. A player cares about what happens after pressing a button, not just a displayed frame counter. A thorough review should describe both.
The library remains part of the experience
A settings update does not settle every practical question about cloud gaming. For an individual reader, the relevant evaluation includes the specific games, supported store versions and devices they intend to use. The announcement’s onboarding caveat is a reason to inspect the current library entry rather than assume every listed release is immediately available everywhere.
Our Switch 2 launch retrospective considered how an opening hardware milestone differs from a sustained platform experience. Cloud gaming also needs that longer view.
Keep up with our gaming coverage and latest stories. This update is most interesting as an opportunity for players to tune and compare a session on their own setup, rather than as an automatic guarantee of a better experience.
