Modern Warfare 4 Season 1: what November 6 actually brings
Three maps launch first, others follow later. The new Battle Pass catch-up system also has a limit worth understanding.
Modern Warfare 4’s first season begins on November 6 at 05:00 UTC, but its headline promise of six multiplayer maps describes a season, not the first morning. Backstab, Canyon and Shoot House arrive at launch; Ministry, Overflow and another still-classified map follow later. That distinction matters more to a returning squad than the size of the roadmap.
Activision’s announcement also introduces the X-01 DMZ area and a revised Battle Pass. The useful preparation is to separate content available immediately, unlocks requiring play, and additions without a firm day yet. A seasonal graphic puts them next to each other; the game will not necessarily do so.
The opening rotation and the later additions
Backstab and Canyon provide new spaces while Shoot House supplies a familiar compact arena. Their different scales should give teams reasons to change loadouts rather than treating every match as another close-range playlist. That is a design implication of the announced rotation, not a verdict on balance before the maps are played.
The pre-season also has its own timetable: Possession is scheduled for October 29 and Infected for October 30. Neither needs to be mistaken for an early arrival of the complete first season. The Culture desk follows these updates separately because a mode arriving this week can be more useful than a much larger promise for later.
A battle pass with a catch-up mechanism
The pass uses a linear 100-tier track. Activision lists the Cronen Osprey assault rifle and CSG-35 submachine gun as free base-weapon unlocks, at tiers 16 and 36 respectively. “Free” here describes the reward track: it does not mean every player receives both guns on first login. The JAK 12 shotgun and ZLR Talonhawk melee weapon are later event rewards.
The premium pass costs 1,100 COD Points; its bundle is 2,400. A new catch-up system awards progress matching the current day of the season, up to day 50, for premium-pass buyers who fall behind. Activision says players must log in to collect rewards. That can reduce pressure to grind daily, but it does not turn the whole 100-tier track into an automatic entitlement. BlackCell is a separate offering, included for the season with the Vault Edition.
X-01 adds another reason to return for DMZ players, with its own enclosed, multi-level environment. It should be evaluated as a change in extraction routes and encounter spaces rather than simply another multiplayer map. The announcement is also not a licence to assume that every paid Modern Warfare 4 feature comes with free-to-play Warzone.
For a squad deciding when to reinstall, November 6 is the first substantial checkpoint. For someone deciding whether to buy the pass, the important number is the tier containing the desired reward. Those are two different decisions, even when the same roadmap advertises both.
