Evercold’s February date comes with a meaningful choice about Final Fantasy XIV combat

Preorders open November 4. Bastion and Zephyr use Evolved mode exclusively, while wider updates have their own access and rollout conditions.

Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold is scheduled for February 23, 2027, with preorders opening on November 4 and early access planned for February 19. For returning players, however, the most consequential part of the announcement may be a choice inside combat: the expansion introduces Reborn and Evolved modes, and its two new jobs belong exclusively to Evolved.

Square Enix’s release announcement fixes the immediate calendar. Early access is listed for 1am Pacific Standard Time on February 19, equivalent to 09:00 UTC. That is a planned start, not a guarantee that every server will be available without interruption at that instant.

Two jobs, one new combat framework

The Evercold feature site introduces Bastion as a tank and Zephyr as a physical ranged damage dealer using a crossbow. Both are designed for Evolved mode. Players should therefore avoid assuming that every new job will simply slot into whichever combat framework they already prefer.

Reborn carries forward the current style of combat, while Evolved is presented as a way to give jobs a stronger individual identity. Those descriptions establish the design direction, not a demonstrated winner. The meaningful comparison will concern what decisions each job asks players to make, how those decisions fit encounters and how comfortable the resulting rhythm feels over repeated runs.

For an MMO, this is also a social change. A new framework has to be understood by people who coordinate roles, practice encounters and explain abilities to one another. The distinction belongs near the top of a buying decision because learning a new job and learning a new version of combat are different commitments.

A different space between Normal and Savage

Evercold raises the level cap from 100 to 110 and introduces a seasonal structure for progression. It also lists Fierce, an eight-player difficulty positioned between Normal and Savage. The significance is the space it is intended to occupy: players can want more demanding cooperation without wanting the full commitment associated with the hardest regular progression path.

A middle difficulty is only useful if its rewards and encounters give that audience a reason to return. Its announced position tells us whom Square Enix is trying to serve; it does not yet provide independent evidence that the tuning will achieve that goal.

The feature site also describes automatic content balancing in selected areas. That qualification matters. It is not a statement that every old or new activity will adjust identically, and it should not be used to erase the distinctions between the game’s existing modes.

Expansion purchase and game-wide changes are separate

Square Enix lists broader battle-system, PvP, Duty Support and housing changes that do not all require buying Evercold. Some additions belong to the later 8.x update series rather than the expansion’s first day. A feature being on the roadmap therefore answers neither “must I buy the expansion?” nor “will this be there in February?” without its accompanying conditions.

That makes the November 4 preorder opening a useful moment to inspect the package, rather than a reason to rush through it. The new jobs have clear roles, the access calendar has dates and the combat split has an important exception. For an established player, the most revealing question is whether the way they want to play fits those changes—not how quickly they can reserve another journey.
