WoW Forever’s stress-test names will disappear. Reservations are a separate event
The beta now runs until October 23, while eligible players can reserve launch names from October 27. The access rules and character limits differ.
The character you made for the World of Warcraft: Forever stress test is disposable. Blizzard will delete the test characters and their names; keeping a preferred name for launch requires a separate reservation, beginning next week. With the beta now extended to October 23, three different prelaunch activities are easy to mistake for one continuous head start.
The distinction matters even if you have already bought an upgrade. Blizzard’s October 20 stress-test update says the October 21 event runs on regional launch infrastructure, rather than the normal beta environment. Its purpose is to put that infrastructure under pressure. Progress made there does not become a launch character, and a familiar name on that server is no reservation receipt.
The beta has a later finish than the old footnote
Blizzard’s latest forum update extends the beta to October 23 at 10 a.m. PDT, or 19:00 CEST. It says the beta returns after the stress test. That is a useful correction for anyone consulting the older October 21 end date still appearing in the Forever product page’s footnotes: the more recent, explicit update supplies the revised deadline.
The stress event also has different eligibility. It accepts anyone with a World of Warcraft account, without requiring an active subscription. That temporary invitation should not be carried over into assumptions about launch access. The product page says the released game is included with active subscription time; optional upgrade packs provide additional benefits.
For players trying the game before paying, this separation is consequential. Access to one short technical test tells you that you can participate in that test. It does not establish permanent access, a place in every later preview, or ownership of the optional pack benefits. Check which event the launcher is offering before treating a working Play button as an entitlement.
Name reservations have their own regional clock
Blizzard’s reservation announcement lists Europe’s opening as October 27 at 18:00 CET, and North America’s as October 27 at 1 p.m. PDT. These are separate regional start times. European readers should also notice the change from CEST to CET: the reservation date falls after the autumn clock change.
Eligibility comes with the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack or the limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection, and applies to the particular WoW account receiving the purchase. Names are allocated in order of availability; paying for early access does not guarantee the name you want.
There is another small but important limit: three characters total across all rulesets during early reservation. Creating two for PvP leaves one slot for Normal or Role-Play. It is not a separate allowance of three for each ruleset, and Blizzard specifies that this restriction belongs to the early reservation period.
That makes a little planning more useful than repeatedly creating test characters. Agreeing on the ruleset with friends and keeping a short list of acceptable names addresses the decisions that actually carry into the reservation window. The stress test cannot settle either on your behalf.
Pick the event that answers your question
For someone deciding whether the game feels right, remaining beta time is the relevant opportunity. For someone committed to a launch identity, October 27 is the date to remember. For Blizzard, the stress test measures whether its regional infrastructure can cope when players arrive together. Each activity has a different customer, even when all three use the same game branding.
That is a recurring distinction in MMO coverage: an invitation to test a service and the terms of joining the finished service are separate promises. Forever is scheduled to launch November 4. Until then, the safest thing to carry away from a test session is an impression of the game—not an assumption that its character list is already yours.
