No Man’s Sky: Forsaken makes the journey and the shipyard less ordinary

Direct stellar jumps, stranger salvage and a quieter HUD accompany the mobile launch. The opening trial does not unlock the whole game.

No Man's Sky's Forsaken update lets players target nearby stars directly from space and warp to them without opening the Galaxy Map. That small change in navigation accompanies a larger October 28 release: new salvage rewards, courier contracts, interface options and the game's arrival on iPhone and iPad.

The official 7.10 notes make the distinction between additions and access requirements clearer than a seasonal trailer can. There is new work for established corvette owners, while mobile newcomers are entering a game with years of accumulated systems. Those two audiences do not need to start in the same place.

A destination stays in the sky

Direct star targeting keeps a short interstellar journey connected to the view from the ship. Hello Games says nearby stars can be selected from space, with an icon marking a relevant interstellar mission target. The change removes a trip through the map for those journeys; it does not make every distant destination available through the same nearby-star interaction.

For exploration, that matters because a menu can turn a visible destination into an abstract coordinate. Following a star from the cockpit preserves the sense of choosing something in the scene. The Galaxy Map still has a different role when the question is where to go across a larger region.

The new courier missions are more specific than a universal delivery job. They require a corvette and a gravitino coil, and begin at deep-space outposts. Players without those prerequisites should not mistake the update announcement for a mission that appears immediately in every new save.

Salvage now feeds a stranger shipyard

Forsaken traders exchange unusual mementos for new corvette components. The materials come from locations such as derelict freighters, deep-space hulks and infested outposts. Prolonged collection can attract hostile creatures, giving the reward loop a risk beyond simply locating another resource.

The practical appeal is customization with a route through the game attached. A cockpit or habitation module becomes the result of a salvage excursion rather than another isolated menu choice. Players can mix the new visual language into existing builds instead of treating a themed ship as an all-or-nothing replacement.

A radial selector for Multi-Tool modes is another everyday change. It reduces the distance between deciding which tool is needed and selecting it, while the notes also list fixes for enlarged text, ultrawide controls and several interface inconsistencies. These changes are less theatrical than a biological ship module, but recur in many more moments of a session.

The mobile launch has a trial, not an unlimited free licence

In its release announcement, Hello Games says owners of iPhone 11 or newer and third-generation iPad Air or newer can try the opening portion free. The launch includes Forsaken and the previous updates, with custom touch controls and a quoted 4GB download. Device compatibility and the App Store's purchase terms should still be checked on the actual listing.

The studio's battery and thermal work is an engineering claim, not an independent endurance result. A large game reaching a phone does not guarantee identical settings, sustained performance or battery cost on every supported model.

Forsaken's most lasting contribution may be the way it connects familiar actions: seeing a star, travelling to it, finding a contract and returning with something that changes a ship. The seasonal rewards give that journey a particular look. Fewer interruptions can make the journey itself more inviting after the season has passed.
