Modern Warfare 4 is out: understand shared camos before starting the grind
Multiplayer and DMZ start now; Warzone integration follows with Season 1. Launch access also differs from older Game Pass entries.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has launched with a progression system that asks a useful first-weekend question: which achievements carry across modes, and which are still waiting for the season to begin? The answer can save time before you commit to a particular weapon grind.
In the launch patch notes, Activision describes Special Camos shared across Multiplayer, DMZ and, once Season 1 arrives, Warzone. The connection is meaningful, but its timing matters. A launch-day Modern Warfare 4 unlock system and the later Warzone integration should not be treated as one simultaneous release.
Learn the weapon before choosing the grind
Create-a-Class opens at level 4. That small initial gate makes the first matches an introduction before the full loadout decision, while the addition of Advanced Weapon Stats gives players a more explicit basis for comparing equipment afterward. Numbers do not replace feel, but they can make a tradeoff easier to identify than a row of broad descriptive bars.
Proving Grounds offers a place to practise movement. It is a useful complement to reading statistics: a weapon choice exists inside a movement system, and a player who cannot reliably execute an escape or transition will not experience a loadout in the same way as someone who can. There is no need to turn every early public match into a simultaneous test of a new gun, new controls and a challenge objective.
The notes also describe changes following the beta, including close-to-mid-range SMG adjustments. Those are developer balance decisions, not proof that one weapon class now dominates. Early unlock recommendations based solely on a patch list risk confusing the intention of a change with its measured outcome.
The purchase question comes first
There is another timing distinction for subscribers. Activision's Game Pass clarification says Modern Warfare 4 requires a separate purchase at launch and is not due in the subscription until the holiday period of 2027. Older included Call of Duty titles do not establish an entitlement to the new one.
That changes the practical meaning of a launch guide. A subscriber deciding whether to join friends this weekend has a purchase decision to make, while someone who already owns the game is choosing how to use their first sessions. Neither decision becomes clearer by treating the franchise's entire catalogue as a single subscription benefit.
For the PC gaming audience, the sensible first step is therefore to confirm access, then use the practice and statistics tools before committing to progression. Shared cosmetics can reduce duplicated effort across modes, but only when the relevant integration is actually live. The most valuable early unlock may be a clear understanding of which part of your play will still count when you change modes.
