007 First Light now has a free starter pack on Steam and Xbox Series X|S, with a PS5 version scheduled for November 10. IO Interactive is offering the opening Iceland mission as a playable introduction, and says progress carries over if you later buy the full game.

The November 5 announcement creates two different trial routes on PlayStation. The forthcoming starter pack is separate from the one-hour full-game trial already offered through PlayStation Plus Premium. The first is a selected opening section; the second is a subscription benefit with a time limit. Confusing the two would make the free offer look more restricted than it is.

A useful sample has a boundary

The starter pack is built around Bond’s opening mission in Iceland. That gives prospective players a defined slice of the game to evaluate, without needing a spoiler-heavy account of later events. It is an opportunity to assess the controls, presentation and initial pacing on your own system.

It is not a complete sample of every location, equipment option or encounter in the full campaign. An opening mission has the job of introducing the player to a game, and can structure its challenges differently from later sections. The sensible question is whether this introduction makes you want to continue, rather than whether it proves every subsequent chapter will work the same way.

The Xbox starter-pack listing provides a dedicated route to the console download. On PC, the Steam page is the reference for the current package and system requirements. A free price does not remove the need to check storage and hardware compatibility.

Progress transfer removes a familiar demo penalty

IO says progress from the starter pack transfers to the full game. The same announcement confirms progress transfer from the PlayStation Premium trial. That matters because it lets the introduction count as the beginning of a playthrough, rather than requiring everyone to repeat it after deciding to buy.

The statement should not be expanded into an unsupported cross-platform-save promise. It confirms continuity from the trial experience to the purchased game; it does not, in this announcement, spell out every possible combination of accounts and platforms.

Try the game, not the scorecard

The strongest reason to use a playable introduction is that it answers a personal question a review average cannot: do you enjoy how this version of Bond moves, reacts and handles its opening situations? That is especially useful for an action game whose appeal depends on the rhythm between observation and execution.

The free starter pack lowers the cost of finding that out. Its defined scope also keeps the decision manageable. Play the opening, judge the interaction on your own hardware and carry that progress forward if the answer is yes. The best part of this offer is that curiosity does not have to begin at the checkout.
