Crimson Desert’s new DLC has several starting points, not one endgame gate

Diving, ships, housing and new character stories have different prerequisites. Here is the spoiler-free preparation guide and the global launch time.

Crimson Desert’s Charting the Unknown expansion does not put all of its new activities behind the campaign ending. Diving has no special unlock condition, shipbuilding begins from a quest unlocked after establishing the Greymane Camp at Howling Hill, and the three new character stories require completion of the main story. For a returning player, those differences are more useful than a single recommendation to finish everything first.

Pearl Abyss’s official feature overview sets out the requirements ahead of the October 29 release. Its stated global launch time is 22:00 UTC: 15:00 Pacific and 18:00 Eastern on October 29, or 07:00 in Japan and South Korea on October 30. The publisher lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Epic Games Store.

The guide below covers access conditions and systems, without describing story outcomes or revealing individual encounters.

Start with the activity you actually want

The simplest entry point is the sea itself. Pearl Abyss says diving requires no special conditions. Time underwater is still limited by breath, so equipment and items that extend that time matter. Being allowed to enter an area is different from being prepared for a long expedition through it.

Building a ship is a separate progression path. First establish the Greymane Camp at Howling Hill, which makes the relevant questline available; completing that questline enables the shipbuilding route. The overview describes dispatching comrades on a building mission at a port or purchasing a ship from a Fleet Office manager. It does not say that merely reaching the coastline grants a vessel.

There is also an ocean-focused storyline, whose condition is completing the main-story quest Howling Hill. That wording should not be flattened into the same requirement as every other ocean activity. Diving, the ship quest and the ocean story are related additions with distinct entry points.

DivingNo special unlock condition; breath still limits time underwater
Ship questlineEstablish the Greymane Camp at Howling Hill, then complete the relevant questline

Housing and businesses follow their own progression

The upgraded housing system lets players build a home from the ground up. Access requires the camp at Howling Hill and Luke’s Request within the Grounds of the Sunrise Greymanes faction quest. That is a concrete preparation target for someone more interested in settling into Pywel than reaching the next major combat challenge.

Businesses have a different local condition. Players need to establish the Greymane Camp and complete the faction quest that liberates the relevant region before accessing its facilities through the world map. A restaurant and a smithy are examples in the overview, but the important rule is regional progression: unlocking management in one place does not establish access everywhere.

Castles sit further along. The publisher describes three claimable castles, gated by the main story, relevant quests and missions associated with taking control of each stronghold. Their interiors and courtyards can then be decorated. Those requirements make them a longer-term objective, rather than something a new player should expect to acquire as soon as the expansion unlocks.

Leave the story surprises outside the checklist

Kliff, Oongka and Damiane each receive a new storyline that starts through the Journal after the main story is complete. Garden of Trials also belongs after that main progression, bringing previously encountered bosses together in a combat challenge. Neither access rule requires listing those encounters or explaining where the characters end up.

Pearl Abyss says release-day patch notes will provide further details. Until those notes establish the final changes, the feature overview is a guide to announced access conditions, not a performance assessment or a guarantee about every interaction in an existing save.

The distinction makes this a more flexible return than an all-or-nothing endgame package. Someone who wants underwater exploration can plan around breath and equipment, while a player returning for the character stories has a clear campaign milestone to reach. The useful first question is which part of Pywel you want to revisit—and whether your save has opened that particular door.
