REDMAGIC OS 12 has a China calendar. Global owners still need their own dates

The upgrade plan runs through April 2027 and covers phones and tablets. Regional firmware remains a separate question.

REDMAGIC's next software upgrade now has a calendar for existing devices in China: the 11 Pro and 11S Pro families lead in December 2026, while the 10 Air is scheduled for April 2027. For owners elsewhere, the important missing item is a corresponding regional timetable. A familiar model name in the Chinese announcement does not establish when a global handset will receive the same major version.

The company's upgrade notice reproduced by IT Home identifies REDMAGIC OS 12 as based on Android 17 and explicitly describes delivery in batches. These are planned months, rather than promises that every eligible device will show a download on the first day. The announcement was reported in China on October 23 and received international coverage on October 24.

Four stages, including two tablets

The table uses the product names in the Chinese notice. It should not be converted into an eligibility list for differently named international tablets. Similarly, a date for an operating-system upgrade does not describe the schedule for every intervening maintenance or security update.

The useful news is continued major-version support across several generations, with a substantial wait separating the first and last groups. Someone deciding whether to keep an existing phone can now identify the planned Chinese upgrade window. Someone waiting for a specific fix still needs the release notes for their actual build.

Why the region is part of the version

REDMAGIC's official global firmware directory separates Europe from North America, Asia and other regions. Its entries illustrate that a shared phone name can have different software labels. The directory is a record of listed builds, not a guarantee that every over-the-air release appears there immediately.

That distinction is already familiar from OnePlus 15's region-specific ColorOS release. Software availability attaches to a device and its distribution channel, not merely to the number displayed in a launch headline. Treating a Chinese package as a shortcut to a global update skips precisely that compatibility question.

A calendar is useful when its limits travel with it

For now, owners of global models have evidence that OS 12 is being prepared for related hardware, but no global release date in this notice. That is a narrower conclusion than either “the update is coming in December” or “global models have been left behind.” Neither claim follows from the published plan.

The next meaningful signal for those owners is a release notice naming their own model and region. Until then, December belongs to the Chinese 11 Pro and 11S Pro schedule. Keeping that qualifier attached makes the calendar useful instead of turning it into another month of fruitless update checks.
