MapleStory Classic World launches with new housing—and a trade timer to understand

Victoria Island returns with citizenship, crafting and modern controls. New accounts must wait 24 hours after reaching level 15 to unlock trading.

MapleStory Classic World’s October 21 Grand Launch returns players to Maple Island and Victoria Island, but the name should not be mistaken for a promise that everything works exactly as it once did. Nexon has paired its familiar setting with new crafting, citizenship and housing systems—and a trading restriction that new arrivals can easily misread.

The official release notes set the launch at 18:00 UTC, or 20:00 CEST, on October 21. Windows and macOS are supported, alongside classic controls and a modern layout with WASD movement. Xbox and PlayStation controllers are supported too, although their recognition must first be enabled in the options.

For returning players, the useful starting point is therefore a fresh character in a familiar place, with some unfamiliar rules. Knowing those rules matters more than treating the word “Classic” as a complete description of the game.

The trading clock starts after level 15

New accounts cannot immediately use the full trading system. Nexon says trading becomes available 24 hours after a character on the account reaches level 15. Creating an account the previous day is not the same condition. Neither is reaching level 15 and expecting the restriction to disappear immediately.

That timing affects a group planning to divide equipment and materials among friends on its first evening. The restriction creates a period in which a new player cannot depend on normal trading to complete that plan. It is worth arranging around the stated condition rather than discovering it when someone tries to hand over an item.

Classic World is also separate from the existing game in a way that matters to established players. Nexon’s official FAQ identifies NX balance as the shared item between the two versions; game-specific features do not carry over. A long history in the main game does not establish a transferable Classic World character or inventory.

Citizenship gives the towns a second role

Henesys and Kerning City have more to offer than a place to stop between battles. From level 12, the citizenship system lets players build a relationship with one of the towns. Requests on its community board contribute toward a citizenship grade, with local benefits including discounted services and access to a specialty shop.

Housing is tied to that system. A citizen at Visitor grade or higher can buy a home with mesos, and the home is shared across characters on the same account. Players can decorate it and invite others, but can own only one home at a time.

The design changes the reason to revisit a town. A place that provides shops and transport also becomes somewhere to accumulate local standing and maintain a shared personal space. Whether those activities remain satisfying will depend on playing them over time; the launch notes establish their structure, not their lasting appeal.

That distinction is useful across the MMO stories we cover. A familiar world can support new systems without becoming a faithful reconstruction of every old interaction. Here, the new systems are explicit parts of the launch, rather than details players have to infer from the title.

Familiar progression, specific launch limits

The release starts with a level cap of 100 and four initial job choices: Warrior, Magician, Bowman and Thief. First and second job advancement are listed at levels 10 and 30. The notes also identify the Excavation Site as an added area near Perion, while Forgotten Hollow is scheduled for November rather than included at Grand Launch.

For early group play, the Kerning City party quest requires level 21 and is available on channels 3–12. A party looking for it on another channel could mistake a location restriction for missing content. Those small operational details are the difference between a smooth reunion and an evening spent comparing conflicting assumptions.

Classic World’s appeal starts with recognition. Its first practical test is learning where recognition stops being a reliable guide: a trading timer, a town’s citizenship grade or a different route to playing on a Mac. Returning to Victoria Island can still feel like coming home while leaving room to learn how the house now works.
